Rise of the Ronin Difficulty Option Differences Explained

There are three difficulty modes on offer in Rise of the Ronin. Dawn is like an easy setting, Dusk plays closer to a normal and Twilight would be your hardest mode. What’s more, players have the freedom to change the difficulty setting at any time during their playthrough. This allows you to explore and adapt as you move through the game.

For a more relaxed and casual experience, Dawn difficulty provides an ideal choice. In this mode, counterstriking, or parrying, is more forgiving, making combat less intense. With enemies dealing less damage, Dawn mode lets you enjoy the game’s world without worrying over complex combat mechanics. It’s particularly suited for newcomers to action games or those who prefer a laid-back experience.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Twilight’s difficulty caters to players seeking a true challenge. Closer to the punishing difficulty of Souls-like games, Twilight mode ramps up damage while decreasing player resources. Mastering this mode demands precise timing of counterstrikes and strategic use of all available combat mechanics.

Which Difficulty should you choose in Rise of the Ronin?

Sitting between the extremes options is the Dusk difficulty, offering a balanced gameplay experience. While not as forgiving as Dawn mode nor as punishing as Twilight mode, Dusk difficulty strikes a fair yet formidable balance. Players can expect tougher enemy encounters, but especially more demanding boss fights compared to Dawn mode. Dusk difficulty appeals to players who enjoy a moderate challenge and want to test their abilities without the extreme difficulty of Twilight mode.

The choice of difficulty in Rise of the Ronin ultimately depends on the player’s preferred level of challenge and gaming expertise. Whether opting for the accessible Dawn mode, the punishing Twilight mode, or the balanced Dusk mode, players are sure to find a gameplay experience that suits their individual tastes and playstyles. And with the ability to adjust the difficulty settings at any time, there’s no real wrong answer.

Rise of the Ronin is available exclusively on the PS5.
