Square Enix announced a new World of Final Fantasy title for smartphones called World of Final Fantasy: Meli-Melo as a new game to help expand on the series. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089.]
The game’s executive produce is listed as Shinji Hashimoto and the director is Hiroaki Chiba. The development and management will be handled by Drecom.
As for the game, its theme is “casual,” and will feature the stacking element from the original World of Final Fantasy. In this game, you’ll get to stack up to 6 characters when they’re all small-size, up to 4 with mediums, and 2 with larges.
However, as far as gameplay goes it’ll be different from the previous game and will allow you to cooperate with other players. In the game, players have access to a “Garden Dome” that allows them to befriend Mirages as they explore the world of Valgallan. Many original characters from the first game will appear.
In an interview, Square Enix said that the previous game sold 800,000 and got plenty of support from abroad.
Plans for a smartphone game was there before the development on the first World of Final Fantasy took place, but since it would’ve cost more to start from scratch for the smartphone version, they decided to properly work on the home console version first then use its assets for the smartphone version.
Square Enix says the World of Final Fantasy series will continue expanding from here.
World of Final Fantasy: Meli-Melo is in development for iPhone and Android.
