Playtonic’s next game has been revealed. The developer is returning to the world of Yooka-Laylee for Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. While the first game was a 3D platformer, along the lines of the type that started appearing in the Nintendo 64-era, this next entry will be a 2.5D platforming adventure. It will appear on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019 both digitally and physically.
Capital B is starting up trouble again. This time, he has created an Impossible Lair and stolen away the entire Royal Beettalion Guard from Phoebee. The only people able to save the day are Yooka and Laylee. They’ll explore the overworld, solving puzzles and getting from one space to the next. Then, they’ll head into levels where they’ll help save the Beettalion. Grant Kirkhope and David Wise will be working on its soundtrack.
Here is the first Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair trailer. It begins with an animated look at Yooka and Laylee, before then looking at the 3D overworld and 2D levels.
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair will be at E3 2019. It will launch on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019. The original Yooka-Laylee is immediately available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
