AtomFinal Fantasy X for the NES?!?
This has got to be the most complicated NES hack to date. A group of Japanese rom hackers recreated Final Fantasy X using the Final Fantasy 2j rom as a base. All of the graphics have been scaled down to 2D, but they still look impressive with the NES limited pallette. Cutscenes in the game have been reworked, not eliminated. For instance the underwater scene between Yuna and Tidus still exists. The battle system has been recreated too. Limit breaks were added along with button presses for Auron’s Bushido attacks. The magic system has been reworked from the ground up to include more spells as seen in FFX.
That would already be impressive as it is, but now imagine this. The entire sphere grid and the Blitzball mini game are also in the rom. It really is a 2D version of Final Fantasy X!

it’s not fake, but to play it you would need to be fluent in either japanese or all of the menus and such for ffx. and you would still need to know japanese to just download the game…

As a NES programmer myself, these screenshots I KNOW are fake. That screenshot up above is possible to do on the NES, but there’s NO way you could pull off the whole game doing crap like that. Oh, there’s a screenshot where they’re all on screen at once, with their proper colors on the airship. If you’ve seen that, I can gaurantee you that IS fake. That IS NOT possible to do. There are only so many colors you can have with sprites, and they have way too many in that screenshot. And there is not enough space for those graphics. No Way. This is fake, and will not run on the NES, unless they prove me wrong, then I will come out and appollogize, and admit I was wrong. But until that day, I will tell you that this is all fake. All GIF animations are fake. They most likely did that all in paint or something.

its not actually a rom its a stand alone program the link at the top of the page used to be where you could dl it but it doesnt seem to be working atm

No. I’m sorry. I can guarantee you this IS fake. I know there is a PC program that can run without an emulator, but THAT IS what guarantees it to be fake. It’s nothing more than a PC remake with NES style graphics and NES sounding music. This is not real. I will come out and say I was wrong when they have the full rom. The screenshots are fake. They couldn’t possibly pull that off on the NES. I’m sorry. Ask anybody here: nesdev.parodius.com/bbs . There’s actually a forum about how fake that is in the “NESdev” section. It’s called “fake fake fake fake fake”, and I posted it.

Sure the PC program is real, but if they just have that, and they don’t have a NES ROM, it is not a real NES port. I can 100% ABSOLUTELY GUARANTEE that.

Well, if someone pretends that it’s a patch for the FF2j-ROM, then it’s definately wrong, since it’s not possible to develop something like this on the NES. (Especially the pictures with Auron’s Overdrive)
If it happens to be a PC game (Yeah, constructed for the PC and not as a NES ROM), then yeah, it could be well possible.

You know, they didn’t use FF2 for anything, they used FF3j. I can tell by the graphics. I would hope they actually make this into a NES ROM, but if it’s just this, it has nothing to do with the NES.

Soooo…you’re making Gamecube software are ya? I fail to beleive that someone who can’t even spell “around” or “august” can comprehend the required code to make a compilable file that will run in the Gamecube environment.

THe stand alown cood just be a program, butit might hav ban never mad on a nes cartridge, or how ever you git it on the nes, but ff2 is a lot similer than that!

omfg dnt u read seniuse’s posts(the non 8-yr old) its a fake and i am a nes/gba/ps1 rom maker and the screen shots are so bloody fake they look almost as if they were taken from a camera when sum1 was playing the game if u want 2 play it on pc figure out how 2 get it from the actual ps2 disc and onto a pc and make a program 2 run it atleast then u will have all the files and stuff 2 run it all u gotta do is make a program 2 run the files

The report never said anything about it being a true nes rom, just nes game look alike, to seniuse, man calm down its like you’re over reacting just because you nes programming manhood is being challenged by a simple post. I’m sure they probably did develop on a pc platform base, with a lot of time and commitment i’ll bet they could pull it off, if you look at this

as for the screenshots well i got a 404 they were probably development screens designed as test shots to get a feel of what they want to accomplish. What a bunch of flamers, you got nothing else better to do then to unzip your pants and hang out your fing nes cartridge out to see who has the bigger bit rom. Just enjoy for what it is.

I can read enough Nihongo to get by, and from all the captions, I can recognise all the scenes, and as a fan, I beleive this is a must-have. Unfortunately, Square seems to have been the wet blanket and killed the site. This looks like the work of a genius.

Um. The game is real. I downloaded it unwittingly along time ago, not knowing about the buzz of it. I wasn’t sure what to make of it since I don’t read japanese. I somehow lost it now that I want to play it. I read it was a product of a group of japanese students. It’s lame that Square effectively killed it because it is not hurting them in any way and is basically a novelty. Anyway, why make a big gay argument about it naysayers. Be open-minded.
