Japanese Nintendo DS ads are designed to appeal to a different audience

In contrast to the Japanese Xbox 360 ads, which are designed to appeal to the “core gamer” and increase brand awareness Nintendo’s DS ads are geared towards non-traditional gamers. The Animal Crossing DS ad has a young woman talking about her day as an Animal Crossing villager. The Otono no Golf (True Swing Golf) ad has a business man concentrating on the perfect swing. Perhaps the most diverse ad is for Daredemo Asobi Taisen, a DS title that is a mix of 40 table games. In this ad you have people from all ages (yes including senior citizens) chanting out their favorite game in the package.

Will this strategy pay off for Nintendo?
