Siren: The Movie

By Spencer . January 25, 2006 . 12:32am

Ghost House Pictures announced that they acquired the rights to Sony’s cult horror franchise Siren. Evil Dead’s Sam Raimi is set to produce the film with Michael Gordon was hired as the lead writer. Keiichiro Toyama, the director of the Siren video game franchise, will work alongside Raimi and Gordon to make sure the movie stays close to the game’s concepts. About Ghost House Picture’s acquisition Raimi said, “Toyama has created an intensely unsettling and haunted world with original images and characters that we hope to bring to life on the big screen.” It’s possible that Ghost House Pictures might be able to do just that. They’re the ones who remade the Grudge for a US audience. On the other hand they did the less than stellar Boogeyman. At least Takafumi Fujisawa, producer of the Siren series is excited. He said, “We are very honored that the work we have done has received the respect and interest of Sam Raimi, an industry icon and man whose films we deeply admire. The entire Project Siren team look forward to Sam’s vision of the world that we’ve created.”

In related Project Siren news, Siren 2 is almost gold. The game is set for a 2.6.2006 release date. Want to check it out? Then watch the Siren 2 trailer.

I think this movie is going to turn out horribly. Spider-Man (which Raimi also directed) didn’t follow the comics whatsoever, and The Grudge was nothing like the Japanese movie it was based on, Ju On. It wasn’t scary, and not to mention the whole cast was American- I understand that they were trying to make it for the US fanbase, but what the hell? Americans really don’t move to Japan alot and you’d have to be extremely intelligent to learn their language. And a lot of Japanese schools teach English. So he could have easily had a Japanese cast.
I honestly HATE Sam Raimi’s and Ghost House’s work, and I’m extremely annoyed that the Project Siren team gave their rights to such a terrible production company. They should have given it to Jerry Bruckheimer Productions or had the original movie translated and then sent here to theaters. Even a terrible director like Mike Newell (Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire) can do better than Sam Raimi.
    Sorry for the rant..
