Video game sheet music heading to schools

The creators of the Video Games Live teamed up with Alfred Publishing to bring video game music to schools. Instructors can purchase orchestra, band and marching band arrangements for their students to play. Only three titles have been officially announced: “Bounty Hunter” from Advent Rising, a Halo Concert Band piece and the “Halo Theme” from Halo. Licensing is still in progress, but hearing Halo in between Copland’s works sounds good to us. Alfred Publishing is pretty excited about this too. The Managing Director of School & Church Publishing Andrew Surmani said “Alfred is always looking for new ways to inspire kids to experience the joy of making music, and the music coming out of the video game industry is amazing. We look for music that is not only beautifully written, but will appeal to students and music educators alike.” Also the Video Games Live tour has a few dates announced for Houston, Chicago and Los Angeles. The tour is also heading to NYC, Seattle, Montreal, Tokyo and Rio de Janiero at some point.
