This week’s most wanted list in Japan has the tables turned in favor of the Playstation 3. Final Fantasy XIII, Biohazard 5, and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots all rank in the top ten. While these games were only shown in trailer form they managed to snag the second, fourth and fifth respectively. Even Blue Dragon, Mistwalker’s first Xbox 360 game, makes the most wanted list with a spot at number 8. The first Wii title on the list is Super Smash Brothers Brawl at number 12 and  Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess only ranks at number 16. Surprisingly, Pokemon Diamond & Pearl ranks higher than Twilight Princess it comes in at number 14. Retaining the coveted number one position is Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS.

That’s the problem with Japanese gamers; they tend to always stick with the franchise that they already know, that’s why companies keep coughing up sequels after sequels and keep remaking/porting old games on newer console.

True, Japanese are much busier than North Americans and they due lack a privilege that we had for decades now, the ability to rent games. That’s right, it’s illegal in Japan to rent video games, so you live over there and want to try something new, you have to buy it. If it turns out that you don’t like the game, well to bad, keep it or resale it and loose money.

But still, it wouldn’t kill them to let go of Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Biohazard for a change.
