Origins of Super Mario 128

Now that Super Mario Galaxy is out of the bag and is coming out for the Wii in the future just what happened to the unofficial sequel to Super Mario 64, Super Mario 128? The title was first mentioned in a Nintendo power interview way back in 1997, but it wasn’t until Spaceworld where Nintendo showcased a demo of 128 Marios running around on a game board.
