Disgaea Portable coming to Japan, maybe to America

By Spencer . September 5, 2006 . 11:42am

The rumors of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness being remade for the PSP have been floating around since E3. Now NIS America announced that Disgaea Portable is coming this November for Japan. Disgaea Portable will have new scenarios and new dungeons with characters that no one expects to see in Disgaea. Maybe characters from Rhapsody or Cooking Fighter might make an appearance. Or maybe guest appearances from Gust games like Ar Tonelico or the Atelier Iris series might be hidden in the game. While the game’s release is definite for Japan, things for America are more hazy. Here’s the word straight from NIS America:

“Because Disgaea is an incredible fan favorite, NIS America is eager to bring Disgaea Portable to the U.S. fans. But in order to make it happen, we will need to prove that there is enough support and demand for Disgaea Portable! So, we would appreciate it if you could support us by raising your voice and making some noise for Disgaea Portable in the U.S.!! Nippon Ichi and NIS America are also working on adding something SPECIAL to Disgaea PORTABLE that will be exclusive to the U.S. market!”

So do you guys want to see Disgaea Portable? Post a comment or send us an e-mail. We’ll be dropping NIS America a line with what everyone’s thoughts.

I have a PSP and am still waiting for some good RPG’s other than Valkyrie Profile and the Metal Gear Acid games. Disgaea would be sweet on the PSP and I hope they bring it to the PSP. Let’s just hope they put in plenty of save points or save anywhere function to make it portable friendly!

The last line of the article got NIS America’s message wrong.

By making noise about it, they mean you fans to perform viral advertising for them. They don’t really care about the fans sending e-mail to them, they want the fans to make enough noise to drive hype and capture new consumers, so that sales will justify their porting to North America.

I’ve been thinking about getting Disgaea 2 for some time, never played the original. this would be awesome in portable format because of the amount of hours you can spend with these games! I agree this would be a good reason for me to buy a PSP.

Blaze Says:

Ok, this HAS GOT TO HAPPEN! I’ve been wanting a portable version of Disgaea: Hour of Darkness since I first picked the game up on a whim at Gamestop! This has to be my all time favorite game ever and I must have a Portable version!

EarthboundNESS Says:

Disgea:hour of Darkness, can be credited with two accomplishments that have greatly affected the gaming market as a whole. The 1st was the regeneration of the nearly dead Strategy RPG market on the PS2. The 2nd was the creation of a Sub-genre of strategy RPG which was never seen before its launch: An RPG specifically tailored to the hard core gamer. Disgaea, unlike many RPG’s at the time of its Conception, provided the gamer with not 10 to 50 hours of strategic euphoria. BUT 50 to a 100!(I have 200 + hours on my file.) This Game is the pinnacle of what every strat RPG should strive to be. And a Launch on PSP should not even have to be debated. GIVE ME MY COPY!!!!

This game MUST come to the U.S.

I need a good reason to buy a PSP, and I need it now.

Japan cant just keep all the good games forever. They’ve already done that with Mother 2 and 3!
