Breaking Wii news from Japan’s Wii conference

By Spencer . September 13, 2006 . 10:45pm

Here’s what everyone is waiting for the price and launch date of the Wii:

Japan: December 2 / 25,000 yen ($213)

North America / South America: November 19th / $250 (From New York Times leak)

As it was rumored the Wii will be bundled with Wii Sports, a sports game package with Tennis, Baseball and Bowling. Wii Sports was shown at E3 and gives console owners a good idea of how the Wiimote works.

Virtual Console titles will be priced according to the system.

NES / Famicom titles cost – 500 yen ($4)

Super NES / Super Famicom titles cost – 800 yen ($7)

Nintendo 64 – 1,000 yen ($8.50)

We’re guessing that a similar price structure will be around for North America where NES games will cost $5, Super NES will cost $7.50, Nintendo 64 $10.

Update 1:

The launch in Japan will have sixteen different titles from ten companies. Wii games will cost between 4,800 yen ($40) – 6,800 yen ($57). The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess will be a launch title and sold for 6,800 yen.

Update 2: Here’s a picture of the Japanese box

Update 3: Nintendo has a new trailer up with a bunch of footage of Wii titles like Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. There is also footage of new games such as Cooking Mama, Wii Music, Dog Island, Pokemon, Fire Emblem and a Shin Chan party game.

How much money did microsoft pay you to make that comment.
This is a new way of gaming and the only comment you come up with is that you dont like the name.
and i'd even bet that you havent even play,d exite truck for the wii or exite bike for the nes.

I have to say that Nintendo has really just totally disappointed me with the Wii. First the retarded name change. Now they want far too much for the console while at the same time making games like Excitetruck a full $50? $5 for an old NES game? That as already paid for itself 10-100 times over. The stinking controller is more expensive than the high end 360 controller for that matter. No thank you Nintendo. You just killed any enthusiasm I had for the "Wii."

Maybe it's just me, but I really wish (hope) there was a Wii package that didn't include Wii Sports. Not just because I want the Wii to be a little cheaper, but because Wii Sports has and still is a game I could give a sh** about. If I wanna play golf, I'll but SSGPangya. If I wanna play baseball, I'll buy either Mario Baseball (if and when it comes out) or whatever third party game that comes out. I think it's WiiSports will be a great way to show off the controller, but I don't want it.

Oh well, beggers can't be choosers I guess
