Will you wait for a Wii that plays DVDs?

Will you wait for a Wii that plays DVDs?Originally the Wii was going to be released with a built in player, but when the final specs arrived Nintendo the DVD feature was removed. Now Gameindustry.biz confirmed that an “enhanced” Wii is in the works for next year and one of the new features will be a built in DVD player. Currently Nintendo only plans to release the upgraded Wii in Japan. Maybe the enhanced Wii will be the next Panasonic Q (region free Gamecube with a DVD player) or maybe it will get a global release. While playing DVDs is an added bonus, that version of the Wii is probably going to cost more. Also like most people I have plenty of devices that play DVDs, which makes having a Wii that does it unnecessary. What about you? Is it worth waiting a year or more for a supercharged Wii?

True or not, who cares? This is 2006, not 2001, having a DVD player in a console is a waste of $20 to $30 that could be put to better usage in extra accessories.

I’m not too fussed as I recently purchased a rather sleek DVD player to go alongside my new television for a stupidly cheap price.

if it is a true Panasonic Q and they make it region-free, then hell yes, it will be worth it, and it will be a worthy addition alongside my launch day Wii, it wont sway me from buying one at launch, but if i can play Jap game with it, then fine.

I probably will not wait for it. If you look at their home console line, they haven’t done anything like they did with Portable (Gameboy > Gameboy Color / GBA > GBA Micro / NDS > NDS Lite) I think this so called upgrade will purely be a novelty thing. The Panasonic Q was pretty much a novelty system if you ask me. sure its nice that it plays DVD and its region free, but it didn’t add anything more than that right?

Maybe they’ll bring back the System integrated TV’s I always thought that was cool back in the Super Famicom/Nintendo days :)

What, you mean this DVD Wii will only come out a year plus later, when next-gen piracy’ll prolly be at its most rampant?

Not bad throw out a new revision in the disguise of a new model to battle rampant hacking, its bold and interesting move…however the pandering to the Japaneses market Sony and Nintendo do this will most likely be another “Panasonic Q”.

Still the WII holds enough power and sway with the its control scheme that alone can fight the meandering 360 and the arrogant beast of sony….

(PS3 so far lacking , over priced and Sony is an arse, the 360 is a hodge podge of parts, game, media, streaming video on a 20GB HD a movie is 3-6GB so at last half of that space has to be used for streaming the other half for demos and saves..not a great move on MS’s part you have to ask sometimes what where they thinking…)

I wish they would just release it now, my dvd player is broken. Plus it’s one less thing to put under your T.V. to dust!
