Blood the Last Vampire becomes a live action flick

Production I.G. has chose French studio Pathe to create a live action movie based on Blood: The Last Vampire. Pathe Productions recently completed work on the horror movie, the Descent, which was released this past summer in North America. Ronny Yu whose past work includes Freedy vs. Jason and Jet Li’s Fearless is signed on to direct the film. Ji-hyun Jun from My Sassy Girl will play the role as Saya, the Chiroptera hunter. Similar to the anime film, the live action movie will take place in post World War II Japan and not be a modern day adaptation. Filming for the movie is expected to begin next year with an international release in 2008.

Manga Entertainment brought the anime film to North America, but that was only a piece of the Blood franchise. In Japan the movie was followed up by a Playstation 2 game published by SCEJ and later a TV series called Blood+ set in alternate universe. If the Blood: the Last Vampire movie takes off maybe we will see more Blood products like Blood+ One Night Kiss released outside of Japan.
