The high price of importing a Wii

With only days until the North American launch Play-Asia finally decided a price on their Wiis. If you want a US console you’re forced into a bundle with Zelda: Twilight Princess for $599. A Japanese Wii is slightly cheaper, $399 plus shipping for the system. In Japan Wiis are retailing for 25000 yen ($212), which means Play-Asia is making nearly double their money per system. Then they’re also going to make cash by selling games. You can’t just get a Japanese Wii something to play. They already made decent cash by selling PS3s and the Wii sales will only add to sales. It’s going to be a happy holiday season down at the Play-Asia offices.

Very true. However, I plan to skip the middleman and buy one myself when I go to Japan next year.

There’s a web retailer based in the UK that was selling US Wii’s for £149 excluding shipping. I was tempted, but I read somewhere that there’s gonna be a region lock on Virtual Console downloads.
