Zelda gets a “low” score and fans scream foul

By Spencer . November 20, 2006 . 12:03pm

Gamespot reviewed the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and gave it a score of 8.8. Immidiately after the score was released eager Zelda fans were outraged. Instead of letting the review fade out of the limelight they fanned the fire with an editorial of why Zelda received the score.

“It’s the same damn game we’ve all been playing for the last 15-odd years. Hey, guess what? You get to go into dungeons…and find items…and put together pieces of heart to make new heart containers. I haven’t gotten very far into it, but I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that Triforce is in the mix at some point.”

Same or not, it’s really the number that is bothering fans. Had Gamespot said the same thing, but gave Zelda a 9 or a 9.5 the reaction wouldn’t have been nearly as big. I’ve said it before and I’ve said it again numbers are overrated. All they do is fuel people who want to “prove” that one game is better than another. Right now since the score can’t show Twilight Princess is better than Gears of War, it isn’t acceptable in the eyes of fans. Is the score going to sway people to buy or not buy Zelda? Probably not and anyways the text of the review should do that, not the number.

I’m with GameSpot’s rating. What the hell do Nintendo fans think, that everyone is going to give every Revolution game a 10? Give me a break. If Nintendo fans have a problem with the rating, then they really need to go get their priorities straight, because they’ve got bigger problems than scores of games they most likely haven’t even played yet. God forbid their golden child of a console isn’t getting perfect scores on its game like it, by Nintendo fan logic, should.

Honestly, I used to hate Sega fans the most, but Nintendo fans lately have really shown their true colors, and I’m left thinking “Wow, the Sega fans weren’t that bad, afterall.”

So they are using the same formula. So what? This is why GameSpot is full of idiots. Nintendo is using something that works and people still love it. I still love it. Go based on the game and not the past. The game is itself. Hell, this could be the first Zelda game for some people. The morons at GameSpot need to grasp the full picture before deciding to open their mouths. Ah, now I remember why I stopped going there years ago.

Did you even read the entire article? Did you even read Jeff’s review and Video review?

Point being:

a) He is being picky with TP’s shortcomings while every other reviewer loves it… [see gamerankings]
b) There is a possibility of him being biased:
- Gears of War >9.6
- Tony Hawk 3 >10
- The Guy Game > 7.5
btw: check out the wii marathon video, the gears video review and zelda tp review..
(to make it short: he is not particularly fond of the Wii)
c) He claims that the formula is getting old/repetitive…
does that mean Gears of War, Halo 1 and 2, GTA series, and FF series should also score lower because they use the same formula? (Shoot/Blow stuff up, leveling up, doing quests..etc).
Also, what is wrong with Zelda’s formula.. was it broken in the first place?

Read the entire post before commenting.. OK ^_^

I’m surprised that so many people actually consider GameSpot’s reviews legitimate in the first place.
