Freeloader loads Japanese Gamecube games on a US Wii

By Spencer . November 27, 2006 . 12:47pm

The Gamecube had an easy region free option, the Freeloader boot disc. All importers had to do was pop in the Freeloader disc then after a few seconds swap it with a Japanese Gamecube game and volia you’re playing Naruto: Geiktou Ninja Taisen 3. Even though the Wii has a vacuum loading disc drive the freeloader still works with the system so you can enjoy unreleased games like Nintendo Puzzle Collection and Doshin the Giant on the Wii. Now if Datel could just make a Freeloader for the Wii….

Woohoo! Thanks for this awesome news! I play Naruto:GNT4 all the time on my Gamecube, and was wondering how the Freeloader might work on the Wii.

Kurosaki Ichigo Says:

Do you know if the Wii’s Virtual Console is region free? In other words, if I have a Wii from the US, will I be able to download Japanese classics?

the_importer Says:

the_importer likes imports :)

Spencer Says:

The Wii Virtual Console is not going to be region free by default… perhaps when the Japanese Wii is released savvy gamers might be able to point the Wii store to the Japanese store instead.

I’ve heard that your Wii can only connect to region specific networks, so no.

But, if you have a Japanese Wii and are connecting from the States, I think that’d you be able to download the Japanese VC games then.

It seems that the Japanese VC store is getting the better deal for PC Engine games at least. I mean, why are we stuck with Bomberman ‘93 and they get the much better ‘94? I’m outraged! Seriously, Nintendo, come on!

Oh well, I’ve heard the PC Engine emulation is spotty on the VC right now, and I own most of the PC Engine games that are being released by Nintendo right now.

I may end up caring if they release Castlevania X on VC…

EvilGamerX Says:

It doesn’t work with some Freeloaders, so you may want to fix the report as to some versions don’t work.

IceAmp Says:

There are different Freeloaders? I thought they were all the same.

Kurosaki Ichigo Says:

Hmm, looks like I’ll keep my Gamecube around, just to be safe.

The_importer: I love imports too! 90% of the games I have for Gamecube are imports. :)

EvilGamerX Says:

Different version numbers IceAmp

Symphony Says:

Wait… The Japanese Wii VC gets a better Bomberman? That’s so incredibly unfair. Five minutes after getting Bomberman 93 I was disapointed that it wasn’t as good as the SNES version that I remebered. I hope that 94 is released for North American audiences as well, or at least the SNES version.

Sey Says:

Yea… Im one of the lucky ones whos version of Freeloader DOESN’T work with my Wii….. Any one know which version works?????

Wade McGuiggan Says:

Any info concerning the Freeloader that was included with the earlier Gamecube version of Action Replay?

John jacobson Says:

Is there a such thing as a universal gamecube. And does the freeloader work with a DOL101 platinum gamecube?

pablo Says:
