Watch: Jump Ultimate Stars revised koma system

Over the weekend I got Jump Ultimate Stars and I’ve been moving through the DS anime fighter. You’re going to hear a lot more about the game later today, but I wanted to show you how the koma system works. Instead of having the annoying system where you dragged blank koma pieces and character faces on top of them, Jump Ultimate Stars has the “J Power” system. You spend “power”, “smile” and “knowledge” points to develop each character. From a menu you can spend points to evolve a character into a battle character (4 or more koma blocks), a support character or unlock database information. See the video below for an example of Gon from Hunter X Hunter’s development.

Hm, it looks interesting. Personally I didn’t have a problem with the way it was done in the first game. My only question is if this will make it more import friendly or not? Basically, is it easy to catch on to?

  • Yeah the revised koma system makes Jump Ultimate Stars much more import friendly. The problem with the first game was there was too much trial and error with the system. Forget about knowing Japanese, you have to recognize each blank manga square to unlock new koma. Now you select from a menu which characters you want to grow.
