It has been for nearly 8 years. The story was trite. The characters were boring. The only thing it had going for it was the magicite system. Oh, and the scene where Midgard blasts the hell out of a big ass summoned monster....or, whatever it was. And, although I really, really liked FFIX, even I am not afraid to admit that it could have had a better story than it did. It was a good one, but it could have used a bit more tlc. Tactics, on the other hand, was, in my opinion, Square's attempt to do something drastically different for the group of people Sony was catering to, and for the Final Fantasy series. the had already done the Front Mission series, but it was a lack-luster event in the US. But the Final Fantasy name alone was an almost qualified success for the FF Tactics game they were about to unload. And the reason why so many folks like the Tactics series so much, is because of the extraordinary amount of freedom it gave players. Every character, team, and battle was what you made of it. It didn't rely on the brawler/black magic/white magic/mystery-meat guy(girl) setup that the rest of the series had templated up. So what if you can't control a character? So what if you can't see a world as you run around? I'll take a graphically sub-par game with an engaging story (decently for the PSOne), brilliant music, tons of customization options, and a deep battle system any day over some crummy angst storylined "Barbie dolled" game any day of the week. Learn to diversify, snake... @Snake

Looks like Square is finally listening to fans and expanding their most underrated franchise. Square's (not Enix) has been in a slump for awhile, with only maybe one true A-list title a year that's not a remake, but it looks like they're coming out of it with KH2, FFXII, and FFIII and now this. I'm holding high hopes for A2 Still, I personally can't get enough tactics, and I actually liked the PS version over the Game Boy one. I'll drop the money for a PSP for this one.
