Dead or Alive Xtreme 2s virtual boutique

By Spencer . December 27, 2006 . 8:30am

Tecmo like many companies has gone down the path of selling extra content via microtransactions. No big surprise, but instead of using the boring Xbox Live interface they have a boutique you can shop in. In the virtual mall you can purchase extra swimwear for 400 Microsoft Points and tickets for Beach Flag or Water Slide for 100 Microsoft Points. Buying swimsuits with real money for virtual pin up dolls in a faux boutique borders on the creepy side, but maybe other developers will be inspired by a custom store front. Imagine the merchant from Resident Evil 4 selling you new weapons and maps.

I’m personally against microtransactions. Having to pay extra when you already paid full price for a game is almost criminal if you ask me. If they want me to pay for these, they’ll have to start dropping the price of their games first. Remove $20 from your suggested retail price and I may just spent it on extra junk online.

I agree with the_importer. The prices for next-gen games are a little steep. Take NBA 2k7 for example; it costs $59.99 for Xbox 360 and yet they fill it with in-game ads (Gatorade and Toyota). I haven’t checked the XBox Live Marketplace, but I’m sure they sell items for this game. If I’m forced to have a Gatorade bottle blocking my view of the court when I’m playing, there’s no way I’m forking over more cash to “complete” my game.

Wait… they sell tickets to play the games included in your FULLY BOUGHT AND PAID FOR DISK for REAL MONEY?!

That’s a nice racket if you can get consumers to swallow it. Here’s hoping, for the future of gaming, that they do NOT.

D-Fuse Says:

That’s stupid that they’re selling tickets to games you already have. Is it to unlock them faster or something?

Devin G Says:

A person shouldn’t have to pay extra for little things like outfits. Why the hell don’t they have a naked chick transaction? That way I could actually get something out of this game!
