Pokemon on the DS hot, on the Wii not

After all of these years the Pokemon phenomenon hasn’t died. Nintendo announced that they have shipped out five million copies of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl in Japan alone. The games come over to North America in April next year where it is sure to sell over a million copies. While the DS games are at the top of last week’s sales charts in Japan, Pokemon Battle Revolution for the Wii barely made the chart at number ten. Only 67,607 copies of the first online Wii title were sold. Narrowly beating out Pokemon Battle Revolution was Wii Sports with 69,923 copies sold last week.

Well it is called Pocket Monsters in Japan, hence the fact that you carry them with you. Although I did enjoy the first games back on the old Green and Yellow screen GameBoy, I never could understand the point paying the price of console game just to see them in 3D.

The full adventure game in 3D, hell even a remake of the first games would have been a better deal than just paying a 3D converter.

Also, it’s no secret that Japan is going handheld. If the DS continues to sale this good, I wouldn’t be surprise if Microsoft and SONY decided to make a touch screen Handheld of their own.

Am I misunderstanding something here? Did Wii Sport not ship with every console? What am I missing here?

In Japan the Wii is sold without any games, so you can choose what to buy. It’s also around $50 cheaper than the forced bundle we got in the US.

No, Japan is the only region in which Wii Sports is not included with the Wii itself. (They pay about $215 for the console).

Why the hell won’t this franchise die? How long can you throw balls at little monsters and have it be fun? Whatever, if having a collection of cutesy monsters floats your boat, then so be it.

Face it. People just like to train animals to fight each other, while extorting people for money. :)
