A new Sonic game, this one is good

A new Sonic game, this one is good imagesSonic the Hedgehogs next generation debut was a bust, but Sonic 1 Megamix brings Sonic back to his glory days. The game is a homebrew hack of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 with new levels, physics from Sonic 2 and abilities from future games. Sonic has the spindash, the light dash where he runs through a group of rings and a homing jump attack. Sonic 1 Megamix also adds in two additional characters that you can select in the options menu. Mighty and Shadow who has a double jump are in the game too. You can download the patch for the current release. This isn’t going to be the last of Team Megamix’s work, below is new footage of Mighty which has yet to be implemented in this build.

Interesting design! For a bit I thought it was from the original game.

I'm a huge fan of retro emulation. Where do you find all these cool patches?! I think I'm going to try this out... imagine the look on my friends faces when they see me play this on PSP.

Gotta love it. The idea of going old-school while using all the new tricks from newer titles is a lot like the New Super Mario Bros. for DS. This Sonic game could be just as great!

First we've seen the release of Streets of Rage Remake, and then this pops up. Great to see some love for some classic Sega series with these homebrews. As soon as I'm finished going through SoR Remake, I really need to get the chance to download and play Sonic 1 Megamix.

Out of curiosity, what is this a patch for? That is to say, to what program do you apply the patch?

Use a patching program to patch it to sonic one, then run it in gens or any other genesis emulator.

Sonic team is slipping, after sonic adventure 2, all the games after weren't as fun anymore. I'm a big fan of sonic games, and espicially loved the old 1s, but I played this game and I liked the graphics, and think it's very challenging and all but I think it would've been better if they improved the bosses and made it a little more challenging, I mean they are way too easy and not too different than the original, but that final stage, that didn't even make any sense, it was too hard and almost impossible 2 do, plus most of the stage music sucks, I think team megamix should've been a little bit more picky with the music, I think there was a lot of great music on "newgrounds.com" they probably could of used somehow, plus I think mighty should've been given just a little more abilities, but other than that, so far it was the best hacked I've played... it was challenging, and I liked the altered graphics, I guess this was a practice 1 or something, if it was, it was a great start, and can't wait 2 see what team megamix will creat next.
