The final game in the "World of Mana" line up, Seiken Densetsu: Heroes of Mana is scheduled to come out on March 8, 2007. Unlike all of the other Mana games Heroes of Mana is not an action RPG, it’s a strategy RPG shaped after real time strategy games. You have to collect resources, defend a base and command your army to attack. The story has an interesting catch too, it’s tied in with Seiken Densetsu 3, the “lost” mana game that was never released for the Super Nintendo. Heroes of Mana takes place after the fall of Pedan, the last town before the final stage in Seiken Densetsu 3, where the hero Rojer is from. It’s going to be interesting to see how this game turns out since the Nintendo DS seems like the perfect system for RTS games. Also there’s something about controlling an army of killer rabites that’s appealing to me.
Lost Magic was a pretty neat game, but sometimes the framerate would drop like crazy if too much stuff was going on at once. I hope they take care not to let something like that happen in Heroes of Mana.
If this game really links to SD3, then I think Square should find some way to make the game avaliable in the US market. Sure, we can easily play the translated ROM, but I’d still like to see something official. Perhaps a DS port or a Virtual Console release? (yeah, I too doubt that it’ll ever happen)
There’s some praise for Lost Magic here, maybe I should give a second glance. There is a clear tie in to Seiken Densetsu 3, but I don’t think its a huge deal. I bet there are plenty of happy DS owners that never touched it in Japan, but are still getting Heroes of Mana. And as much as I want Seiken Densetsu 3 to come over it doesn’t seem likely at this point even for the Virtual Console. It would require an extensive amount of text writing to get the game on there and I can’t imagine that being profitable.

Don’t forgot about Lost Magic, its an RTS game. So I’m really looking forward to Heroes of Mana since I like the RTS of Lost Magic. :D
