There are so many simulators for playing instruments, you’ve got Guitar Hero, DrumMania and Beatmania… well the IIDX keyboard isn’t an instrument yet but you get the point. While you get the feeling of rocking out you miss out all of the “real life” drama of playing at dive bars and writing songs. Shady O’Gray’s Rising Star is unique because the band drama is what the game is about. You start out as a starving artist with a beat up band van to deliver beer with. You have to research the local music scene and claw your way into a tiny club. Eventually players earn the glory of opening for a big name band and one after a lot of work be the headlining act. Rising Star is on the “sim” side of the music industry. You don’t have the fun of holding a plastic guitar, instead you’re micromanaging your musicians inspiration levels and leveling up your songwriting skill. But being a rock manager isn’t all about signing contracts. You get to trash hotel rooms too with an “advanced physics engine”. A demo comes out next month and we’ll keep you updated when it’s online.
