Working hard for the swag, the future of game journalism? images

DS-X sends us a tip that a writer from a fairly popular video game site showed up on Games Press begging for swag. Is this the one of the real reasons that people get into the whole gaming journalism thing? For t-shirts? This is only one writer and in no way (hopefully) represents the entire state of game journalists, but what do you guys think? Is working for swag a fair deal? Also as I’m sure you’ve noticed I blacked out the name to protect the poster.

O LAWD. When I go to trade shows I run around taking 'Swag' from differnt GC's to hand out to my friends :3

It keeps them happy, but they will never get Concrete Block Man...He's mine!

I'm very sad to see that. Working to get this "swag" stuff instead of the real deal?? Just plain wrong...

Hardly a big deal. What's the point if you can't get free stuff every once in a while?
  • Pichi
Eh, getting PAID for doing your job of reviewing a game? No different than movie critics and the likes.

Meh, I would totally take any free items that people wished to send me, but to be honest it seems that you actually need to... you know... go to places where they give the stuff away. If he wants to bitch to anyone perhaps he should bring it up with his cheapskate employer. (or perhaps he should have entered in this site's great swag giveaway. I got a nice shirt out of it!) Personally, I would be happy to get free games, crappy or not, it's still a game to play with for free. What more could you honestly want? I mean, the person plays games for free and possibly gets paid for it. I PAY to play games and at the end of the day I have nothing to show for it except for a few "really impressive" game saves to wow my friends with (read: NOTHING!).
