Watch: Spectrobes the trailer

By Spencer . February 2, 2007 . 6:21pm

This new trailer of Spectrobes shows off some quick CG clips of Rallen and some gameplay footage with him paired up with two Spectrobes in combat. In between the usual footage you can see a glimpse of how the Spectrobes evolve from their cutesy youth form to their battle ready “awakened” forms. Probably the most interesting part of the movie is how they use the code input cards. Half way through the movie you can see a card with holes that is placed over the DS touch screen. By using these cards and poking the correct spots though the holes you will be able to unlock extra Spectrobes content like items or rare Spectrobes.

The input card sounds interesting but is it just some cheesy way they can make money off of the whole card-collecting pokemon fad? I saw some gameplay of this game at E3 and while it looked cheesy at first, I actually got kind of interested in it. Digging up bones to make the spectrobe and blowing into the mic to blow away the dirt on the fossil is a pretty neat way to make use of the mic.

Eh, for my DS granule-blowing action all I need is the final chapter of the first Pheonix Wright game.

The game actually looks… okay. What really gets me is that Disney puts all of that Japanese text everywhere. It looks like they’re ashamed of their American roots or something. Next thing you know, Disney will declare that they only date 100% real Japanese women.
