After being invited to a carnival by a ringmaster, Mario, Peach and eleven other characters, travel through six different game boards in search of stars. While on the board players can transform their characters using candy power ups. Bowlo Candy changes Peach into a ball and she bowls over characters to get coins. When Wario eats Vampire Candy he turns into a vampire and sucks coins from the other players. Besides the transformations Mario Party 8 hasn’t deviated from the traditional formula too much, except for the mini games. Mario Party 8 introduces motion controlled games where players use the remote as a paddle to row themselves through a river race, another game has players punch a statue and in a couple of games the controller works like a steering wheel. Other games use the Wii remote as a pointer like where you shoot Boos in a haunted house, drag and drop cake toppings and use the remote to select multiple choice answers for quiz questions.
