Policenauts fan translation in ‘07

Snatcher was a killer app for the Sega CD, too bad nobody cared about it at the time. While Snatcher moved on to cult status in America, Hideo Kojima (the creator of Metal Gear Solid) was working on the spirited sequel, Policenauts. Policenauts is an adventure game where you play as Jonathan Ingram, a space colony officer who is presumed dead in 2013. His body was found in 2040 and through a cold sleep function in his suit he is alive. When he gets back to Earth he meets his wife who has now remarried and his first case is tracking down her new husband. Konami had some plans to bring Policenauts out for the Saturn, but it never came to fruition. After five years of hard work the group at JunkerHQ.net announced that they have completed translating the text into English and a patch should be ready in the second half in 2007. Policenauts is a missing gem if you’re into the adventure genre, so if you’ve just finished up Hotel Dusk pick up a copy of Snatcher to get yourself ready for Policenauts.

As excited as I am about this, I would still be happier if they would translate the Saturn (definitive) version.

  • I agree with Noun. The Sega Saturn version is the definative version of Policenauts. Thank God I have a copy of it :)

With added light gun support for shooting segments (also similar to the Sega CD version of Snatcher), new cutscenes specifically designed for the game, and quite a few extra bonuses to boot, there’s no doubt that the Saturn version is superior in everyway.

I suppose its a step in the right direction, and hopefully this only means we can see the Saturn release get translated as well.

Hi! I am a member from the same community as the fellows translating the game; http://junkerhq.net and would just like to say yes, Marc and the rest are going to translate the Saturn version as well as all of the subsequent other versions; the 3DO version and PC98 versions included.

As well as this; Marc is offering to translate the PC Engine of Snatcher, which is, undoubtedly, THE best version of the game available due to it being the final version directed by Kojima; meaning it is seen by the Kojima fans as the uncut version of the game with all of the gore and sex left in the game, as well as better sound and some scenes altered or put back in (a couple are taken out of the Sega CD version due to either censorship or it ‘not making sense to the Western audience).

So, um, yes, the team at Junker HQ are very busy indeed. :-)
