Nintendo working on Puzzle League for the DS

Panel de Pon (also known in the USA as Puzzle League) is getting remade for the Nintendo DS. How can Nintendo remake a simple game where you match three or more like pieces without breaking the mechanics? Add style to it! Panel de Pon DS has a trendy Lumines inspired look instead of the boring blank background. Also like Lumines the backgrounds (should we call them skins?) change after each level.  The DS version also has a mission mode where you need to clear all of the blocks on the screen in a set number of moves. Once you’ve honed your skills by playing in single player mode you can show off your skills online via Nintendo WiFi. The new look might not be enough to make Panel de Pon stand out compared to Q Entertainment’s line up of chic puzzle games, but online play makes Panel de Pon worth a look. Also something else to note is Panel de Pon DS is one of the rare games where players can play it in “book style” similar to Hotel Dusk: Room 215. Panel de Pon comes out on April 26 in Japan and a North American release has not been announced yet.

  • I wonder how this will effect the homebrew Tetris Attack that’s been out for a while.

this looks like you can play with the stylus, which will kinda split the hardcore players and possibly introduce new players…

  • My wife and I love the Gameboy Advance version which also includes Dr. Mario. While having dual screen capabilities and a possible touch screen interface, I don’t know if I’d be willing to shell out another $20-$30 for just the one game again.

I would definitely recommend it for anybody that hasn’t played it yet.
