How to play Final Fantasy XI on Windows Vista?

By Spencer . February 23, 2007 . 11:04am

If you upgraded to Windows Vista and tried to play Final Fantasy XI all you would get is the above error message. Styxrtp sends us a tip that he fixed the problem by creating a patch that lets the PlayOnline viewer work with Windows Vista. I haven’t tested this out yet and it might be against Terms of Service to use such a thing, so use this at your own risk. But if you’re dying to raise your Chocobo in Vista this might be a solution.

For the first time since I started using Windows (3.11), I’m in no hurry to switch to the new version (Vista).

Don’t care about FFXI BTW.

if ur on vista u gotta start the disk in a folder when u pop it in to down load ffxi instead of letting the setup start its self…. but theres another prob. Sorry if this has been posted but i havnt checked fully through,
Progress so far with FFXI.
downloaded Pol vista patch from playonline, fresh install from it, tried to install ffxi and recieved error message saying pol wasnt installed, found out it was because i had downlaoded the U.S. version of the patch (DOH) so i actually checked the file details before i downloaded to make sure it was the E.U ver and that let me install ff……..but…… now its all installed all i get is another error message saying “FINAL FANTASY has stopped working” typical lol /EMO /wrists

shaun Says:

go to the official website and download vista patch. then on ur cd or dvd disk dont auto play it. open it and if it is an package with more than 1 there should be files saying inst 1 , inst 2 etc. go in the first inst 1 and double click setup or setup launcher. it will load and install after that do same for instal 2 , 3 etc. if its the single packs just go in cd/dvd files and open it then find setup or setup launcher it install without installing the orginal pol .

Me Says:

This is kinda late in the game, so it’s probably already done, but this is what you do.
1) Download the patch from http://www.playonline.com
2) Insert your game disk(s) (I have the DVD version of XI, RotZ, CoP, and ToAU)
3) Close autorun
4) Open your start menu and click on “(My) Computer”
5) Double click on the CD/DVD
6) There should be multiple folders if you run the DVD version
7) Open each folder and find the “Setup” file and double-click on it (each expansion has to be done seperately)
8) Voila, game is installed and (most importantly) works correctly with Vista

Hope this helps any who have yet to figure it out.
