Watch: The Sims remade for Wii

By Spencer . February 26, 2007 . 2:34pm

Electronic Arts released a new trailer of the Sims for the Wii and the Nintendo DS. The project has been renamed My Sims and the most notable thing about the Sims is the style. Instead of the “realistic” look My Sims appears to be more like Animal Crossing. What do you think of the new look? Does it hit Nintendo’s target market? Or is it too “kiddy”?

well, I’m sure the style was changed for two reasons - both to cater to a larger audience, and also because the original engine probably was too much for the hardware. I can’t remember the number of times I had friends tell me how badly the game (and its sequel) ran on their computers. I’d say this suits the target audience just fine.

I think it’s mainly done for the Japanese market. Personally I like the style but if the gameplay is anything like the Sims I had for the PS2 - whatever version that was - I’m not interested. It’s was the only game ever I’ve returned in 24 hours while normally when I’m not sure I keep it for the full 7 days, I can always change my mind in that period. With that Sims game I was sure I wouldn’t.

I love this new look, so cute!! I wouldn’t mind playing a Sims game in this style.

Monkeypox, I think you’re fairly on target with your first reason, but you’ve missed the mark with your second. Sims 2 graced Playstation 2, X-Box, and more importantly, Gamecube. As the Wii is more powerful than all three of those machines there would be no problem bringing a similar Sims 2 experience to the system.

What I think is that EA has realized that the Wii is, well, different from the other consoles. I think they’re smart to make a version of the Sims for the Wii that stands out from the rest - just like the console itself.

Broader appeal, too, as you said. The new look probably opens up the game to younger players and Asian countries. The Sims series has previously skewed a little more to the adult crowd.

Too cute. I’d play it. Reminds me of Harvest Moon characters.

I want… I want… I want.

I’m not scared to admit that.

i would play this as well, as long as the gameplay is different. i wouldn’t mind a sims sort of game in the animal cross world - only more global and friendlier to connect. if this game is “internet ready” i would hope it is indeed more open than animal cross and does away with nintendo’s friend system.

XD oh god, I can’t wait for this baby, it’ll justify my wii purchase no problem~

I don’t like it to be honest. It does look “kiddy” to me.
