Watch: Shining Force Exa trailer

Sega is releasing Shining Force Exa in North America this month. It is a follow up to their other Shining Force action RPG, Shining Force Neo. While Sega has been taking the Shining Force series in “bold” new directions I’m hoping that Sega goes back to the drawing board and makes a strategy RPG. Or at the very least bring Shining Force III out in its complete form.

My Sega Saturn doesn’t even work anymore. Oh man I wish I could play the whole Shining Force III in English. How I long for real Shining Force combat!

Would be nice if the next trailer actually had GAMEPLAY footage instead of the intro: I don’t buy games to play the intro. Idiotic SEGA…

What I can’t stand the most is the use of the words “Shining Force” for this game and its predecessor. I actually enjoyed Shining Force Neo, I thought it was a well-executed action RPG on Sega’s part. However, using the term “Force” when it isn’t even an SRPG is a complete betrayal of the series roots. Up until now, any Shining title with Force in its name was always an SRPG, and for any title that strayed away from this focus, was given an entirely different word after said title, such as with Sega’s recent Shining Tears and Shining Wind.

Man I can’t wait. Neo was amazing. This will be a great follow-up to Rogue Galaxy. However I’m VERY disappointed they didn’t keep the original opening theme… pretty sure they did in Neo.
