Robots galore in Super Robot Taisen W

It’s Voltron (alright technically Go Lion)! Too bad you don’t get Voltron in your group right away in Super Robot Taisen W. I’ve only sunk a little time playing the game and you don’t get Voltron right away. Early in the game your ship is under attack and you’re hopelessly outnumbered by Eva-like monsters. All of the sudden Duo in Gundam Deathscythe Hell and Quatre in Gundam Sandrock Kai rush in to save the day. Later you run into Tekkaman Blade who finds himself in a bind when the team comes in to rescue him. The gameplay is similar to any other SRPG where you drag and drop troops on the bottom screen to put them in position to attack. Once you decide to attack you can pick from a selection of moves, like using a laser cannon or Duo’s beam scythe. One of the differences between other SRPGs is there is an emphasis on ranged attacks, so you don’t want to move your entire army directly into enemy territory. If you do this you will find your units will take a beating. The first stages of Super Robot Taisen W follow a similar pattern where there is an initial wave of enemies to attack and once you vanquish those another, larger wave shows up. You think that you’re outnumbered and then reinforcements arrive. It’s similar to Namco X Capcom and since the menus are pretty easy to figure out Super Robot Taisen W can be played (maybe not enjoyed, the story sequences are quite long) if you’re patient with the menus. Probably the most impressive part about Super Robot Taisen W is the animated combat scenes. Below is a clip of one of Quatre’s attacks. Now excuse me while I go and search out Voltron.
