I don't know how realistic this is, with size limitations and all, but if I was an indie developer trying to make a game for XBLA, I'd make something along the lines of Diablo 2. That genre has never been exploited well enough on console (with online gameplay), and it needn't be nearly as epic to get a ridiculous amount of people playing.

Puzzlequest will be coming to XBLA eventually. That's the Puzzle/RPG from the makers of Warlords which is due out next week on the PSP and DS. the 360 and PC versions haven't been formally announced, but the developer has mentioned them.

And of course, SOTN is coming. That's basically an action-RPG.

An action RPG like Secret of Mana that stresses teamwork through co-op would be a perfect fit for XBLA as long as it came with online play. Microsoft has been really going all out with classic titles getting the online treatment to build more connectivity with old school gamers, and there's no better way to attract RPG players than to start off with SOM.

I would instantly buy Secret of Evermore, Shadowrun (the snes RPG), and of course chrono trigger.
