Details on the Dragon Ball MMO

In 2008 Namco Bandai Games plans to release a MMO based on the Dragon Ball universe. It’s called Dragon Ball Online and Akira Toriyama is going to be lending a hand with the concept art. You can choose to be one of the different races like Nameks, Sayans and Humans as seen in the screenshot. Once you pick a race you can build up your warrior and learn moves like Goku’s Kamehameha and start fighting. While the game is scheduled to come out in 2008 in Japan, it’s going to be out this summer in Korea, where the Dragon Ball Online is being developed. What hasn’t been decided is how people are going to pay for the game. It could be fee based where you pay a flat fee for a month or an alternative would be to use a cash op system that’s becoming more popular with MMOs in Asia.

how sweet it is…

i thought a naruto MMO would be released be fore this.

Aoshi00 Says:

I would’ve never seen this coming for Dragonball.. after all DB has only been made into either card based RPGs and fighters. I hope “Harukanaru Densetsu” would turn out well for the DS, it’s been years since I played the card RPGs back on the NES. I don’t think I would pay to play a MMO though, but the graphics seem to look very nice.

Judging by this, I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for about 10 years after Naruto becomes irrelevant before the MMO comes out. It will be interesting to see if HNM groups have to call to the server to raise their hands inorder to power up a spirit bomb. I’m guessing they won’t… but it would be neat nonetheless.

SoulCaster Says:

Expect servers to be overly populated with the Saiyan race just so they can have a chance to go Super Saiyans and it other levels. To prevent this they’ll have to invent something equally as “cool” for Humans, Nameks and what ever other race this game will contain.

Saiyan’s better have their friggin’ tails! or else they’ll be no point in playing them…

in other news this game looks pretty cool… I wonder if they’ll release it in english? I sure hope so!

Symphony Says:

Though this is an odd case since the game is by NamcoBandai (a company with experience in many markets), generally Asian MMOs are licensed by another company for US/world servers. So unless NamcoBandai feels that they have a chance to turn a profit in broader markets it will be left up to another company to bring it state-side. That is of course assuming that another company feels that they might make a profit from it. PS: Hope that NamcoBandai releases it, generally when other companys license an Asian MMO they are way behind in content.

Kotoro Says:

If they do the combat system properly this could turn out well. The fighting will probably be quite weak unless its scripted and not involved as much as the fighting games. To respond to attacks, lag would have to be reduced and physics display errors would have to be minimized. One might suggest a controller-mode with usb gamepads, but that requires extremely low latency.

DBZ fanatic Says:

No matter how much I like Dragon Ball. I am not willing to pay in order to play this game so I am really hoping that they get rid of the damn fee. On a side note I would want this game really bad if u didnt have to pay to play and to me it looks like it might take resemblances from world of warcraft

Peegee Says:

You know that there will be ‘pirate’ servers like RO right? Just wait for those :)
