Grand Theft Auto IV teases late night TV viewers

By Spencer . March 23, 2007 . 11:25am

Loyal Siliconera reader, Vysethebold, sent word that Rockstar is already starting the Grand Theft Auto hype train buy purchasing unused late night TV ad space.

I was watching the cable channel FX at 2:00 AM EST and this commercial for Grand Theft Auto IV showed up.  This commercial is no normal ad though.  It is apparently an entire block of time on the FX scheduling block just bought for advertising the game much like an infomercial for Girls Gone Wild.  Also, none of the footage of the game is being showed just a Roman numeral "IV" and a time countdown reading the heading "trailer" and a countdown displaying days, hours, minutes, and seconds (for example right now it reads 06 15 46 30).  The only other things on the screen are the Rockstar logo and the website URL on a black background.

Thirty minutes of a countdown clock sounds like a little too much to watch, but you can see what he is talking about in the video clip below.
