More obscure PS1 games find a second life

There are two things I like about the Playstation 3 to PSP download service in Japan cheap games and Sony bringing back obscure titles from the PS1’s library. Before Media Vision became known for creating Wild ARMs they released a Gunners Heaven, a PS1 launch title in Japan that bears similarities with Treasure’s Gunstar Heroes. The game is side scrolling shooter where you have to constantly pick up power-ups to refill the timer in the center of the screen. If the timer runs out your gun becomes worthless and you’re doomed. There is a sense of constant time pressure to shoot fast and run through levels that isn’t seen in many games. Because it’s 2D SCEA passed up the project and it never saw a US release. Galaxy Fight is a fighting game made by Sunsoft way before they created Waku Waku 7. I don’t remember Galaxy Fight being anything special, but that’s what makes it a surprising that it’s getting on the list instead of Tekken 3 or Battle Arena Toshinden. Here are the five new titles out in the Playstation store:

Hard Edge 2

Raiden

Gunners Heaven

Tall Infinity

Galaxy Fight

Nice selection of pretty much the well-known like Raiden and the more obscure such as Gunner’s Heaven in this update as it really brings out many of the grand diversity found when glancing at the PS1’s library. Now, if only Sony, or even Nintendo in this instance, got around to finally centering on imports. Lists like these just make you realize how much we’re getting the shorter end of the stick here.
