After all the signs pointing to Senko no Ronde’s release Ubisoft officially announced they are releasing WarTech: Senko no Ronde in May 2007. WarTech: Senko no Ronde is a blend between mecha combat and a shmup. There’s head to head online play and a story mode to explore. The only problem with Senko no Ronde’s release is the price, it’s being sold for $60 instead of the $40 price point reserved for “experimental” try it out kind of games like Earth Defense Force 2017. It might be pricey, but at least it’s coming out.
I think it was a good idea on Ubisoft’s part to display the mechs rather than the characters. That should give gamers a better idea of what the game is about than the Japanese boxart ever will. I can imagine at a glance, more people would be willing to pick it up with that cover, as stylish as the original may seem it just doesn’t put up a good representative of this shmup/fighter hybrid in comparison.

Yeesh. Why is it that Western video game box art always have to look so bland and dull? I remember importing VP2 Silmeria when it came out in Japan and fell in love with the box art because of how symbolic it was of Silmeria and Alicia (if you’ve played the game, you know what I mean); but then comes the U.S. cover with a typical uninteresting box art that shows action (Alicia getting ready to do a horizontal slash with her sword). Good lord.
At least Senko no Ronde is coming Stateside. That’ll give me a reason to play my 360 aside from Eternal Sonata this summer.
doh, bad cover art again, definitely wouldn’t be proud to own that.
Actually I think that’s the limited edition’s cover, the regular Jpn edition is like this, w/ more shadows, still very cool,

And worse yet, they just had to revise the name too, adding WarTech. It simply clashes with everything else in the headline.
Coupling that with the $60 price tag, it’s as if Ubisoft wants Senko no Ronde to flop in retail. At the very least, I wouldn’t be surprised if the game dropped in price fairly quickly in order to recover sales.
I would still buy it at that retail price though, I’m just glad to see this title finally get confirmed for a US release and find it’s way onto American shelves.
