Looking at Beautiful Katamari

A new batch of screenshots from Beautiful Katamari show Namco hasn’t changed the Katamari series too much. The graphics have the same blocky look instead of the smooth textures we’re used to seeing in other Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 games. While some critics might complain, I’m a fan of the square-ish Katamari universe, that’s part of the series’ charm. The picture above does show something the PS2/PSP games doesn’t have, a new Katamari cousin rolling up a 7,000 meter Katamari by picking up entire continents. I’m hoping that when you pass the 10,000 meter mark you can start rolling up planets and presumably other strange aliens in the galaxy. While downloadable content has not been announced, Namco Bandai could pull of an “Idolm@ster” for Beautiful Katamari by selling level packs, gamertag icons, item packs, new cousins and the soundtrack through microtransactions. Would you buy extra songs to roll to or strange new objects to roll up? See some more screenshots of Beautiful Katamari past the break including the new Royal Rainbow!

Nice, I'm glad Namco Bandai decided to go with the blocky textures after all. It helps give the game it's retro feeling, and it just wouldn't be Katamari without it.

Also, I'd buy extra content for Beautiful Katamari as long as it's priced evenly and not like Capcom's overbloated prices for only 2 maps on Lost Planet for 400 points.
  • I actually would buy new levels. The best part about these games are the little things in each level. Going through levels and seeing robots built out of smaller pieces and cops trying to stop robbers from getting into houses makes my day.

    Hopefully we get these soon!

Are you kidding? I'd buy new Katamari songs DAILY! One of the best soundtracks for any game. Right now, I just have to decide which system I'll buy for my Katamari fix.
