A new batch of screenshots from Beautiful Katamari show Namco hasn’t changed the Katamari series too much. The graphics have the same blocky look instead of the smooth textures we’re used to seeing in other Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 games. While some critics might complain, I’m a fan of the square-ish Katamari universe, that’s part of the series’ charm. The picture above does show something the PS2/PSP games doesn’t have, a new Katamari cousin rolling up a 7,000 meter Katamari by picking up entire continents. I’m hoping that when you pass the 10,000 meter mark you can start rolling up planets and presumably other strange aliens in the galaxy. While downloadable content has not been announced, Namco Bandai could pull of an “Idolm@ster” for Beautiful Katamari by selling level packs, gamertag icons, item packs, new cousins and the soundtrack through microtransactions.
