This formula works out surprisingly well, and like New Super Mario Bros. before it, is a great blast from the past with many of the conventional gameplay elements that make the Mario RPGs so enjoyable, namely gaining experience points not to mention the usage of special items to inflict further damage on your enemies' HP.
