Before and after: text rendering on the Wii browser

I’m fairly certain most of you upgraded your Wii browser to the final version by now. Most of the features in the updated browser are easy to notice like the redesigned toolbar, but others like the “secret” browser commands completely hidden. What about text rendering? The new browser is said to have “improved zooming and scrolling” and “an improved zoomed font.” Before I updated my Wii browser a few weeks back I took some screenshots of text on the Wii browser before and after.

Let’s start by looking at the New York Times. This screenshot is from the Wii browser before the update.

Now here is what the same page on the final version of the Wii browser.

At this zoom level it’s hard to notice anything that’s different. Let’s try the maximum zoom level on the text the old Wii browser to the maximum and see if anything changes.

Now let’s do the same thing with the new Wii browser.

Looks better right? That’s not even the maximum zoom with the new Wii browser, this is.
