Eye of Judgment coming out this fall, microtransactions elevated to a new level

One of the coolest Playstation 3 titles I saw last year was the Eye of Judgment. Usually I’m not a fan of card games, but the technology behind the Eye of Judgment grabbed my attention. Instead of having a virtual deck, you use physical cards that you place on a 3 x 3 game board. The Playstation Eye camera deciphers which cards you threw on the board and displays the monster or spell effect on your TV. The Playstation Eye also allows players to interact with their monsters by poking the empty space where the monster would stand on the game board if it was real. The creative presentation sold me until I found out you have to collect a series of actual cards for the game. Hasbro announced that they are going to be collaborating with Sony to sell trading cards with encrypted CyberCodes that work with the PS3 game. Microtransaction overkill?

The idea sounds nice, but the thought of having to go and actually buy cards to be in use for the game is kind of lame. Microtransactions elevated to a new level indeed.

That is, of course, assuming one can’t download/purchase digital card packs from the Playstation Store. Stupidn next-generation gaming and its idea of microtransactions…

it’s not really microtransactions. more like a magic : the gathering game that you can play online. note : i’m a sucker for card battle games so i’m probably talking crap.

I don’t think you’re going to be able to buy cards from the PS store (unless you’re printing them out?) since you use real cards for the game. That would be a good idea though, but either way Eye of Judgment is going to cost a lot of money to play.

I’m thinking people will just print out copies of the cards. I can’t imagine the camera having the resolution to pick out anti-counterfitting details.

It Looks Awsome Will Be Awsome And The Game Comes With A Deck Of Cards, Mat, Booster Pack And Camera All For The Same Price As Any Other PS3 Game
