Sega announced that they have Ghost Squad, an 2005 arcade light gun game, scheduled to come out for the Wii in Holiday 2007. In Ghost Squad players are a squad member in the Global Humanitarian-Operation and Special Tactics Squad (Ghost Squad) and players use 25 weapons to combat terrorists. The arcade game is your standard light gun fare, except the rifles we’re pretty large compared to Time Crisis’ tiny pistol. The Wii release will still be a light gun game, except they are adding in new control schemes and a four player multiplayer mode. I’ve been waiting for Sega and Namco Bandai to start releasing their arcade light gun games on the Wii. It’s really a good choice since you don’t need any extra equipment to replicate the arcade experience. Now that Ghost Squad is in development I’m hoping that House of the Dead 4 gets a Wii remake. You wouldn’t even need a special gun to shake off zombies, since the Wii remote has accelerometers built into it.
Back when the Wii remote was annouced I was already imagining the light gun genre coming back in fashion. But I do think there should be a peripheral to simulate the guns used in the arcade counterparts. When you’re supposed to be holding an uzi in the arcade, you’ll wanna be holding an uzi at home.
Besides, it wouldn’t feel right when you shoot in the gangsta 3 o’clock hand position.

It was about time some serious Light Gun games were announced for the Wii, 1st RE: Umbrella Chronicles, now this… hope those sell well so that we can see more coming… Namco should wake up on that too (Ninja Assault or Time Crisis for Wii could be super sweet !!) so that the genre can find a fresh new start on consoles thx to the Wiimote, I mean… no more need to buy a G-Con gun separately, how neat is that.
I’ve tried House of the Dead 4 in Arcade and it’s purely stunning… fingers crossed SEGA bring that franchise too someday
