Star Ocean remakes coming to the PSP

The Star Ocean series is getting a little extra attention from Square-Enix and at their pre-party conference a set of Star Ocean remakes were announced. Star Ocean: First Departure and Star Ocean: Second Evolution will be released for the PSP. They are remakes of the two Star Ocean titles with new graphics. The more tantalizing announcement is Tri-Ace is working on Star Ocean 4, but a system for the next Star Ocean game has not been announced.

I knew it! I knew Enix would be remaking both Star Ocean titles on the PSP whenever I thought about Square remaking Final Fantasy IV DS. It was kind of a given. This is great :)

Now bring on more information regarding Star Ocean 4.

I just hope Star Ocean 4 isn’t exclusively for PS3. Because I have Wii and XBox 360, and would prefer not have to pay for a PS3 to get Tri-Ace RPGs.

My worst video-game nightmare was two high priced systems released at the same time, both of which have lots of great RPGs on them. Bah. That nightmare is coming true. I can live without FFXIII, but if Tri Ace, Nippon Ichi, and Atlus head to PS3, I will be compelled to buy one.

I wonder if Star Ocean 1 will have improved gameplay. Lack of free movement pretty much totally ruins it for me. Especially when you get to those knights that throw boomerang-axes at you that hit you four times. Not being able to twitch-move out of the way, but having to press Y, set those little crosshairs, and then move, is a HUGE pain.

Star Ocean 2 (And the entire Star Ocean series for that matter) is also in desperate need of an action cancel button. The biggest problem with Star Oceans 2 and 3 is that if you hit attack, but the enemy runs away, you end up chasing and chasing and chasing the enemy until either you get hit or you catch up. This causes about 50% of my game overs — not being able to use an item because the AI decided to attack the enemy from half the screen away.

Great news. I never played these two before, and have wanted to. I wonder what 4 is going to be like.
