Remember the mysterious listing on the ESRB about Aegis Wing? It’s real and it’s coming out this Wednesday on the Xbox 360 for free. Aegis Wing is a 2D side-scrolling shmup designed by Microsoft interns: Scott Brodie, Danny Dyer and Matt Monson over the course of a summer. The final product has four player online play through Xbox Live and six stages to play through. It’s free “for a limited time” so grab when it goes online this Wednesday.

What a pleasant surprise and a nice gesture by Microsoft through releasing Aegis Wing on XBLA for free. Best part is, shmups are one of my favorite genres in gaming. I can just imagine how chaotic the game could get with 4 players online, usually you’re only presented with the option of 2 player co-op. Being for a limited time at this point in the beginning, anybody with Xbox Live should definitely download this title once Wednesday rolls around, you can’t get much better than free.
