This is not too similar to Cosmic Wars, a SRPG based on the Gradius universe by Konami in 1989. The game was later followed up with Paro Wars, this time based on Parodius, released in 1997 for the Playstation.

It really isn't the first time a shmup series has gone the way of a turned-based strategy title, but the word still isn't out yet on how R-Type Tactics will play. We'll only know for sure on that number once Irem uploads some videos of the game in action.

Didn't Irem say that they had already lowered the casket that was R-Type into the ground, performed the last rites, said a few words, and buried it? I understand that this is technically different, but also technically still an R-Type. I doubted Irem, personally, and I figured it wouldn't be too long until something else came along. >_______

Why not. They will probably do something like Star Fox Command. I would still prefer a good old R-Type game.
