Actraiser coming to the US virtual console

By Spencer . May 25, 2007 . 3:09pm

It looks like Square-Enix is preparing to release Actraiser on the Virtual Console soon since the ESRB has a rating for it. Square-Enix already brought Actraiser, their god sim cross action game, in the Europe and Japan. Since Square-Enix is selling Actraiser on the Wii’s virtual console chances for a Mega Man X: Maverick Hunter-like remake are probably out of the question.

ActRaiser originally had me sold on owning a SNES. It was really one of those early launch titles I just needed to have, despite the lack of critical game. Looking back, this is certainly a game that deserved it, especially for the rocking Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack, which heightened the game to a whole new dimension, resulting in a cinematic atmosphere unlike any other at the time.

More so than probably any title, ActRaiser really deserves a second chance at the market thanks to the Virtual Console. Being unique among video games as a side-scrolling platformer/simulation hybrid, it really deserves another opportunity to shine and should be welcomed by all with open arms.

I must have replayed Actraiser over a hundred times. You could beat this game in less than 2 hours! But it was just as satisfying each time… they don’t make ‘em like that no more!
