The Square-Enix Party Final Fantasy IV DS trailer is live!

By Spencer . May 30, 2007 . 1:16am

Square-Enix updated their Final Fantasy IV page with a teaser video for Final Fantasy IV DS. The clip doesn’t show any gameplay footage, but it does splice it story bits about the Kingdom of Baron collecting crystals. You can catch a glimpse of Kain and see some beautifully rendered backgrounds by clicking on the blue button in the bottom right hand corner on the official site. It’s far from exciting except for the ending where Square-Enix clarified that Final Fantasy IV DS is coming out in 2007… for Japan.

I really can’t believe I’m this excited for a remake. But this is Final Fantasy IV, a classic RPG, with new 3D graphics and an extended story.

Update: Here’s the trailer, embedded so you don’t have to poke around the internet to see it.

Magnificent! I’m really looking forward the enhanced story, the original story was already so good.

the_importer Says:

God! Just how many times can you update the same %$#@ing games before people get tired of them?

Just goes to show you that the staff SquareEnix has the combined creative talent of a snow shovel.

Roli Says:

To be fair, the_importer, given that Final Fantasy IV on the Super Famicom never saw full completion of its story and what not, a remake of this game is highly justified. Sure you can say Square-Enix has no talent and just resorts to remakes, but they have a few new IPs like The Last Remnant and Subarashiki Kono Sekai. I wouldn’t go so far as to say their creativity has gone down the toilet, though.

Donnington Says:

Now this is what a remake should be! I’m sick of all the Final Fantasy being ported around as they were but for a new dungeon. Remakes should have up dated graphics, extended stories, reworked plots and just in general be jaw-dropping.

I hope one day (years from now) they remake FFVII through IX with this in mind.

Holy crap I’m excited.

nightcap Says:

MY OH MY, I am going nuts. This has always been my fav game and this is just to much! YAHOOO!

Angelous Says:

This indeed is excellence. I wonder when the localized version will hit the states?

Aoshi00 Says:

My god, the trailer looks incredible. The scene was very heavy in the original and now w/ this updated music, Cecil’s voice sounds a little young but not bad. Can’t wait!

Nightcap Says:

Anyone else see the outline of the giant of babel in the trailer :P Its on the side of the tower. Fun fun fun.

I wouldn’t mind DS ports of Final Fantasy VII-IX, but there are some biased Sony fanboys who say that it isn’t possible. There are rumors of some 1-3 gigabyte cartridges that Nintendo has developed for the DS, and Final Fantasy VII could probably fit on one of them, but I am not sure of Final Fantasy VIII and IX fitting on one of them. Final Fantasy IV looks like one of the best remakes to date, it beats out Super Mario 64 DS in my book.
