Details on the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Metal Gear Solid Collection

Twenty years ago Konami created the Metal Gear franchise and it first appeared on the MSX. Now the series is one of Konami’s pillars and to celebrate twenty years of Solid Snake they are releasing the Metal Gear 20th Anniversary Metal Gear Solid Collection specifically for the Playstation. The collection is being sold for 6,900 yen ($57) and it comes with:

Metal Gear (PS2)

Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (PS2)

Metal Gear Solid (PS1)

Metal Gear Solid: Sons of Liberty (PS2)

The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 (PS2)

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2)

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops (PSP)

Metal Gear Saga (DVD)

Alternatively you can purchase re-releases of some of the Playstation Metal Gear Solid titles. Konami s selling a reprint of Metal Gear Solid for 1,500 yen ($12) and Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops drops in price to 2,800 yen ($23).  However, you won’t be able to get the Metal Gear Saga DVD that chronicles the history of the series and two of the older Metal Gear titles on the PS2. Also Konami isn’t re-releasing any of the "Subsistence" editions of MGS2 or MGS3, maybe those will get a reprint for Snake’s 25th or 30th Anniversary.

That’s good and all, but why can’t they do a proper Castlevania collection yet?

Sure, Dracula X Chronicles will be amazing, but I’d love to replay 1-3 with arranged versions.

So If I’m getting this right, they’re remaking Ops for PS2?

Nah, Konami is just reselling MGS: Portable Ops for the PSP. Sorry to get your hopes up!

I imagine a MGS: Portable Ops remake on the PS2 would have been pretty awesome, especially with the online servers in Subsistence closing. But it would only leave fans segregated as far as getting the PSP version or not. After all, there’s no point in purchasing Portable Ops on Sony’s handheld when Konami goes along releasing it on the PS2. :p

At $57, the price is a little too steep for me to lay down cash on a collection of games I already own on the PS2, but the Metal Gear Saga DVD is rather tempting all the same. I really hope some further info and videos spread out about what’s on the disc once this Metal Gear Solid Collection ships.

Spencer, is it possible that this package will be released with English version?
since both of the MGS,MGS2… had been released in English before.

I can’t read Japanese, it’s really hard to enjoy it without great story details. >
