Gametap’s free virtual console

GameSetWatch is always keeping an eye out on GameTap and I’m glad that someone out there is doing it. Maybe I should start too since there GameTap Free is in beta where you can sample some of the games. However everything is timed to suck you into paying for the service after tasting a sample library of emulated games. The games that can be played now until June 13 are:

Baseball Stars Professional

Blazing Star

Blue’s Journey

Breakers

Bubble Bobble

Bust-A-Move

Commandos 3: Destination Berlin

Cyber-Lip

Disciples Sacred Lands Gold Edition

Football Frenzy

Jagged Alliance 2 Gold

King of the Monsters

Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Legend

Metal Slug

Mutation Nation

Myst Online: Uru Live

Neo Turf Masters

Puzzled

Qix

Rainbow Islands: The Story of Bubble Bobble 2

Rampage

Rastan

Riding Hero

Robo Army

Robotron 2084

Root Beer Tapper

Scrapland

Space Invaders

Super Sidekicks

The King of Fighters ’94

The New Zealand Story

GameTap free is rotating games and after June 13 free play for Metal Slug is over and a new set of games will be available. From the list they are digging deep into the Neo Geo vault. When is the last time anyone played Mutation Nation? Maybe some Saturn stuff like Panzer Dragoon will appear in the future along with more already announced Neo Geo titles.

Coming in the future are:

Ghost Pilots

King of the Monsters 2

Kizuna Encounter: Super Tag Battle

Liquid Kids

O.R.B.

2020 Super Baseball

The King of Fighters ’95

There are a quite a few SNK fighters lined up to be available soon

Possibly to help promote the few SNKP-USA is releasing over the upcoming months?

Gametap couldn’t have picked a better time to launch this beta now that summer has finally arrived. Their wide selection of classic titles is a gold mine for any oldschool gamer, and now with them offering up a select few games for free, it’s an offer almost too good to pass up.

I’ll really have to subscribe to Gametap over the summer, just for the opportunity to delve into their library of games on-demand.
