Watch: Rockman ZX Advent trailer

Capcom has brought the Mega Man series in many brave new directions, but it’s always the 2D Mega Man games like the Mega Man ZX series that I enjoy the most. Rockman ZX Advent is due out in Japan on July 12 and picks up the story after the events of Mega Man ZX. There are two new heroes, Grey who was in cryogenic stasis and Ashe a ruin hunter to play as. Both of them start with the Model A biometal, which is based off of Axl from Mega Man X7. When equipped with the Model A suit the two heroes use dual pistols, can charge a homing laser and a Giga Crush where they shoot all of the enemies on the screen. Drawing more from Axl’s abilities the Model A biometal lets players transform into defeated boss characters.

I haven’t played the recent Megaman spinoffs in a while, is this the first game ever sporting humans fighting reploids? At any rate, this game seems to pack a lot of action.

Jeff Says:

@Aoshi00: No, it’s the second. Megaman ZX was the first.

I’ve been thinking when I get the cash I’ll go grab a copy of ZX. I loved the original Zero for GBA (played a little last night in fact), and the idea of having suits similar to the four guardians from that game is quite tempting.

This one though… well, as pretty as it is, I don’t like the idea of transforming into the boss robots. When all is said and done, I want to still be Megaman (or whatever you are in these games). I also don’t like the idea of a homing shot. People say the charge shot ruined Megaman, and while I don’t necessarily believe this myself, I can see the point they’re trying to make. I fear that a homing shot could potentially destroy half the challenge of these games.

If the charge shot is limited and weak, then you should have no fear of it ruining anything. I mean there have been sub weapons that have homed in the series before. This one should be no different. Also, who thinks the charge shot ruined Megaman? That’s a pretty crazy comment considering that Megaman 4,7,8,X,Maverick Hunter X,X2,X3,X4, and ZX were all great games that contained the charge shot.

mikael Says:

well to me the charge shots, made the games more interesting as how you deal with bosses, with either bursts or by charging…
i unfortunetly havent tried the new ZX series, but i should obtain them eventually as megaman is one of my most memorable and favourite games :)

mikael Says:

well in my opinion the charge shots have been a great addition to the series, since its up to you what you suit using burst shots or charged up ones..
i never found them the times ive tried them unbalanced,at least in the games if you get hit you lose the charge,
so looking forward to get both of the games of the ZX series :)
